The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has a new, unexpected companion in the form of a sentient IKEA Kallax shelving unit. This official mod, titled Kallax Storageborn, is available for free on PC and Xbox via Skyrim's Creations system and introduces a unique NPC voiced by actor Matt Berry.
The mod is triggered when players become over-encumbered, a common predicament in Skyrim due to the sheer volume of items collected. The Dragonborn is then directed to an ancient dungeon to gather components for the Kallax unit. Once assembled and equipped with a magical Allen wrench, the shelf comes to life, communicating with the player in Berry's distinctive voice.
Beyond its novelty, Kallax Storageborn offers practical in-game utility. The shelf companion can carry excess loot, with stored items visually appearing on the unit in the game world. Players can also summon their shelving ally using a new "IKEA!" shout. The mod further enhances the experience with a questline that delves into Kallax's past, featuring two IKEA-themed dungeons, a Clutter Golem boss fight, and unique equipment such as an Allen Key weapon and a Meatball Helmet.
While the mod is an obvious marketing collaboration, its elaborate nature may appeal to Skyrim players. The inclusion of unique items like the Meatball Helmet is likely to be a significant draw for those exploring this unusual addition to Tamriel.
