The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has received a free, officially licensed creation that introduces an IKEA Kallax storage unit as a fully-fledged in-game companion, voiced by Matt Berry. This new addition, named Kallax Storageborn, is designed to help players manage their inventories and mitigate the common issue of becoming over-encumbered.
The collaboration, a joint effort between IKEA and developer Kinggath Creations, leverages Matt Berry's distinctive voice to bring the furniture item to life. Players can summon Kallax Storageborn with a custom Dragon Shout, "AYE-KEY-YAH," and the companion can carry items for the player.
Beyond the core companion functionality, the creation includes a new questline with two IKEA-themed dungeons and a boss encounter against the Clutter Golem. Players can also acquire themed items such as the Dwemer Allen Key weapon and the Meatball Helmet, and consume meatball food items.
IKEA executive Kemi Anthony stated that the company sees the modding community as an opportunity to "make a real difference" in digital lives by applying their expertise in functional storage to the fantasy world of Skyrim. She added that Matt Berry's voice adds "theatrics, booming authority and charm" to the creation, aiming to delight gamers burdened by excessive loot.
Matt Berry is no stranger to video game voice work, having previously lent his voice to characters in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and Thank Goodness You're Here!. He is also slated to appear in future projects including Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and a Minecraft movie.
The IKEA Kallax Storageborn creation is available for free download today, September 9, through Skyrim's in-game Creations menu.
