Developer Mega Crit has announced a further slowdown in the update schedule for Slay the Spire 2, shifting from bi-weekly releases on the beta branch to a less frequent, yet unspecified, cadence. This decision comes as the team aims to dedicate more resources to developing significant new content, including experimental game modes, an alternate Act 2, and a new playable character.

Initially, updates for the early access title were planned for weekly releases. This was adjusted to bi-weekly in May, a pace that allowed Mega Crit to implement a number of features and experimental changes. However, the studio explained that this piecemeal approach makes it challenging to focus on the larger, more impactful content players are anticipating.

"In order to bring you this much-anticipated content, we will be shifting our updates to be a bit further apart, at least for a while," Mega Crit stated in their August newsletter. "We can't guarantee the exact pace or if said pace will be regular, but we'll continue to keep you updated, as always!"

While specific details on the new content remain scarce, a visual hint of a bandage-wrapped foot was shared, potentially teasing aspects of the new character. The developer also provided some clarifications on future difficulty scaling and game mechanics. The team indicated that there are no plans to extend the difficulty beyond Ascension 10, as they consider it to be near the game's highest challenge level, especially with more characters in the sequel. Discussions regarding higher difficulty will continue as more content is integrated. Furthermore, Mega Crit intends to keep enchantments from being stackable, prioritizing deckbuilding over cardbuilding mechanics. The developer also humorously confirmed that the character Defect will not be receiving a firearm resembling real-world weapons.
