Erica Slaughter’s brutal encounters with monsters are making their way to tabletops in the form of a new card game. Tiny Onion, the production company founded by James Tynion IV, the writer behind the acclaimed horror comic Something Is Killing the Children, has announced Something Is Killing the Children: A Gridstorm Game. This 1v1 tabletop card battler is based on Tynion and artist Werther Dell’Edera’s bestselling comic series.
The game is slated to launch on Kickstarter in 2027, offering fans an opportunity to engage with the world of Erica and the monster-hunting Order of the Broken Moon. Gridstorm's gameplay centers on a grid-based battlefield, where strategic placement and unique card effects tied to specific characters will determine the outcome of battles. The game will feature a roster of characters and creatures drawn from the comic's expanding universe.

Since its debut in 2019, Something Is Killing the Children has grown significantly. Initially a five-issue miniseries focusing on a young monster hunter in desolate towns, the series has now surpassed 50 issues. The franchise, dubbed the Slaughterverse, has expanded to include spinoffs like House of Slaughter, a novel, a Webtoon adaptation, a crossover with DC, and upcoming film and animated TV projects from Blumhouse.
Tynion has previously described the comic's structure as akin to a long-running genre franchise, comparing Erica Slaughter to a character like Hercule Poirot, who leads readers through various tragedies rather than being the sole focus of every narrative. This approach lends itself naturally to a game that allows players to control both sides of the central conflict within the comic's world.
Before the game's release, a special Erica Slaughter trading card will be included with the Something Is Killing the Children #50 Cover C blind-bag variant, available in comic shops on October 7 and at Tiny Onion’s New York Comic Con booth. This card will serve as an early preview of the game's characters.
