Sonic the Hedgehog is set to join the ever-expanding universe of Fortnite as part of the battle royale's forthcoming gaming-themed season. Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, dubbed "Override," is anticipated to feature collaborations with several well-known classic video game franchises, including Tetris, Kingdom Hearts, and Persona.

Initial gameplay footage shared by the official Sonic the Hedgehog social media account offers a glimpse of what players can expect. The clip showcases an area within Fortnite designed to resemble Sonic's signature Green Hill Zone. In the footage, a character resembling Peely can be seen dashing through the zone in a manner reminiscent of Sonic's iconic speed. It is presumed that a new item will be introduced, granting players super-speed abilities similar to the character.

Fans of Fortnite's lore may notice the teaser begins with the logo of the Imagined Order (IO), the game's original antagonists led by Geno. This suggests that the IO may be manipulating reality to integrate video game characters into Fortnite's world, though the motivations remain unclear.

Fortnite is currently concluding its "Runners" season, which centered on the collection of creatures akin to Pokémon, known as Sprites. These Sprites have proven popular, leading Epic Games to confirm the mechanic's continuation with a new generation planned. All Sprites collected during the current season will be preserved in a player's "Sprite Garden," a feature that bears a resemblance to the Chao Garden from the Sonic series.

The next season of Fortnite is slated to launch on August 19. Further announcements regarding major video game crossovers are expected in the coming days, with potential news about Kingdom Hearts surfacing at the D23 Expo.
