Sony has announced two upcoming "State of Play" presentations scheduled for Thursday, September 3rd. The dual broadcasts will include a "State of Play" followed immediately by a "State of Play Japan." This marks the second and third State of Play events of the year.
The first stream is set to begin at 6am PT / 9am ET / 3pm CEST / 10pm JST. While Sony did not specify the exact duration, State of Play presentations typically run for approximately 40 minutes. The "State of Play Japan" will commence directly after the initial broadcast and will be hosted by Yuki Kaji. Both presentations will be available in English, with the first stream offering Japanese subtitles and the second stream being hosted in Japanese with English subtitles.
IGN will host a pre-show discussion 15 minutes prior to the first stream's commencement, at 5:45am PT / 8:45am ET / 2:45pm CEST / 9:45pm JST. Following the conclusion of Sony's streams, IGN will also air a "Beyond" post-show to analyze the revealed content.
The "State of Play" events are expected to deliver a variety of updates and announcements from both PlayStation Studios and external development partners. A significant highlight will be an extended look at the world of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Other potential reveals could include updates on titles such as Marvel's Wolverine, God of War Ragnarök's Laufey, Ghost of Yotei DLC, Kingdom Hearts 4, Control, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and Resident Evil: Veronica. There is also speculation regarding a potential update on Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which was absent from the June showcase and has recently completed performance capture.
Sony's recent discussions regarding the phasing out of physical game releases by 2028 are anticipated to be a topic of discussion among viewers during the streams. Details from previous State of Play events and this year's Summer Games Fest in June can be referenced for context on recent reveals.
