Sony Brings Back Translucent Accessories with PS5 Prism Collection

Sony is embracing nostalgia with its new Prism Collection, bringing back the popular translucent aesthetic for the PlayStation 5. This collection includes see-through designs for DualSense controllers and console plates in vibrant green, red, and blue.

While marketed with unique names like “Flare Orange,” “Emerald Green,” and “Graphite Gray” (which features clear blueish highlights), these accessories aim to evoke the popular translucent designs of the late 1990s. The DualSense controllers in the Prism Collection will retail for $85 each, while the console covers will be priced at $75. Pre-orders are set to open on November 10 from the PlayStation Store, with shipments beginning on February 4, 2027.

Sony acknowledged the fan anticipation for transparent controllers. "We wanted to bring back the iconic see-through trend of the late ’90s in a fresh, modern way that complements the PS5’s industrial design," stated designer Leo Cardoso on the PlayStation Blog. Designers elaborated that the high-gloss clear finish extends to the back of the controllers, offering a glimpse at the internal technology while maintaining a sleek appearance. The metallic finish on the console covers is designed to contrast with the transparent elements, creating a premium look consistent with the PS5 generation. The selected colors are described as a vibrant orange with rosy undertones, a deep hunter green enhanced by its transparency, and a cool-toned storm gray.

The Prism Collection follows similar translucent offerings from other manufacturers, including recent translucent controller options for Xbox consoles and retro-inspired designs for consoles like the Analogue 3D and Mod Retro. This trend taps into a growing interest in see-through hardware designs within the gaming community.
