Sony may be looking to revive the dormant Killzone franchise, according to a new report. The sci-fi first-person shooter series, once a flagship property for PlayStation, has reportedly been dormant for over a decade, but sources suggest a new project is in the very early stages of development.

Guerrilla Games, the studio originally behind Killzone, is said to be working with an external development partner on the new title. While details are scarce, the project could manifest as a remaster or remake of one of the earlier games, with the 2004 original being a likely candidate. There is also a possibility that the project could evolve into a more substantial reboot of the series.

PlayStation signed a co-development agreement with People Can Fly, known for Outriders, in March 2025 for a project codenamed Delta, which is based on an existing PlayStation intellectual property. While this remains speculative, People Can Fly could be a potential candidate for assisting in the Killzone revival.

Guerrilla Games is currently focused on its live-service Horizon spin-off, Horizon Hunter’s Gathering, which has reportedly undergone a reboot after a recent playtest. The studio is also working on a true sequel to Horizon Forbidden West, though that is understood to be many years away. It is unclear how collaborating with an outside studio on a Killzone project would fit into the studio's current pipeline.

The last entry in the Killzone series was Killzone: Shadow Fall, released in 2013 as a launch title for the PlayStation 4. Earlier titles in the series, including the original Killzone from the PlayStation 2 era, are not readily accessible on current PlayStation platforms, including the PlayStation 5, and have not been made available through services like PS Plus.
