Sony has announced that two PlayStation State of Play presentations are scheduled to air later this week. The first broadcast is set to begin on Thursday, September 3, at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET.

This initial showcase will include "updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners," according to a PlayStation Blog post. The presentation will conclude with an extended look at Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Immediately following the first show, a State of Play Japan broadcast will commence. Hosted by Yuki Kaji, the voice actor for Attack on Titan and Octopath Traveler 0, this second presentation will "offer deep dives into upcoming games from game studios in Japan and Asia, including new gameplay, announcements, and more."

While the duration of each show has not been specified, speculation about potential game reveals is already circulating. Players are anticipating updates on Naughty Dog's "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet," a new intellectual property that has seen limited visibility since its initial reveal nearly two years ago. The game's absence from June's presentation led to player disappointment, and many hope this week's State of Play will provide new details.

Insomniac Games' "Marvel's Wolverine" is another title on the horizon, with a PS5 release date set for September 15. The upcoming State of Play presents an opportune moment for Sony to generate further excitement for the title, even if substantial new gameplay is not showcased.

Beyond a closer look at "Final Fantasy 7 Remake," the specific content of the broadcasts remains uncertain. However, discussions surrounding the future of physical media on PlayStation are expected to be prevalent in online communities. Gamers have continued to voice their opposition to Sony's plan to discontinue physical disc support in January 2028, and this sentiment is likely to be reflected in discussions during this week's presentations.

Further details regarding Sony's upcoming plans for the PlayStation 5 are expected when the two State of Play showcases air later this week. In related news, Sony has previously stated that the discontinuation of physical discs will not negatively impact its business.
