Soulframe's open beta, referred to as "Preludes," will begin on November 6, allowing anyone to download and play the fantasy action MMORPG without an invitation. This launch coincides with a busy period for MMO enthusiasts, as it falls shortly after the release of World of Warcraft: Forever and during the same week as Old School RuneScape's Hardcore worlds.
The upcoming Verse of the Veillands update introduces significant changes, including a complete overhaul of the map progression system. Players will embark on a journey through a corrupted landscape called the Veillands, which they must purify. This process will unlock new resources and side activities such as fishing, and allow players to train a wolf pet into a mount. This new system aims to provide a more guided introduction to the game's open world compared to the previous approach of simply placing players in the environment.
Verse of the Veillands also adds a new playable character, the Ode Shrike. This "tricksy trapper" Pact utilizes spikes, balloon snares, bombs, and chains to control and disrupt enemies.
After three years of closed testing, during which the game has received multiple updates including new quests and classes, Soulframe is now opening its doors more widely. While the Verse of the Veillands system will receive further updates in the future, this launch marks a significant step for the game. Meanwhile, developer Digital Extremes continues to support its long-running MMO, Warframe, with a new narrative expansion set in the Tau system arriving in December.
