Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has experienced a significant surge in sales, with an estimated 316,000 copies sold across PC and PlayStation 5 since the release of the film Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 30. This represents an approximate $11 million increase in revenue for Sony.

According to estimates from Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics, the film's popularity directly translated into a substantial boost for Insomniac's 2023 title. The sales figures encompass both digital and physical purchases, with physical copies accounting for 20 percent of the total. Additionally, some players accessed the game through PlayStation Plus subscriptions, which include Marvel's Spider-Man 2 in its Extra tier.

The influx of new players was so pronounced that the game saw a spike of over one million daily active users for the first time since its launch week, nearly three years prior. Elliott attributes this surge to a combination of the film's widespread success, associated marketing hype, and a well-timed discount. During the film's release window, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was available on PS5 for $30. This promotional price, identical to one offered in February, yielded significantly higher daily sales figures compared to the earlier period, with an estimated 15,000 copies sold per day currently, versus 6,300 per day in February.

PC sales on Steam also saw a similar positive trend, despite a higher price point of $40. Adding to the cross-promotional synergy, the game received new in-game content aligned with the film's release, including a costume directly inspired by the attire featured in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

These recent sales contribute to Marvel's Spider-Man 2's estimated lifetime sales of 18.2 million copies, with approximately 92 percent of those sales on the PS5. This brings the franchise's total estimated revenue to over $1.2 billion, underscoring the commercial strength of Insomniac's Spider-Man titles for Sony. Insomniac is slated to release its next Marvel title, Marvel's Wolverine, on September 15.
