Fans eager to see Tom Holland's Spider-Man finally share the screen with Tom Hardy's Venom can maintain hope, according to statements from Spider-Man: Brand New Day producer Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. In a recent interview, both executives indicated that a crossover between the characters is a possibility they are open to.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Pascal and Feige addressed the potential for a live-action encounter between Peter Parker and Eddie Brock. While the characters have briefly existed in the same universe, with teases in the post-credits scenes of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home, they have yet to have a direct on-screen confrontation. "It would be great," Pascal remarked when asked about the long-awaited meeting. Feige added, "Always have hope."
The current separation between the characters stems from a film rights agreement between Sony Pictures, which controls the film rights to Spider-Man and related characters, and Marvel Studios. This arrangement has led to Spider-Man's integration into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Sony has focused on developing its own connected universe featuring Spider-Man villains and antiheroes, including Venom, Morbius, and Madame Web.
Beyond the potential MCU crossover, Pascal also confirmed that Sony Pictures is developing an animated Venom movie. This project, helmed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, directors known for Final Destination: Bloodlines, is reportedly still several years away, with Tom Hardy expected to be involved.
Pascal and Feige also touched upon the presence of street-level Marvel characters within the broader MCU narrative. Characters like Daredevil, portrayed by Charlie Cox, and Jon Bernthal's Punisher have been integrated into the MCU's Spider-Man adjacent stories. Feige clarified that issues preventing wider integration of characters like Kingpin and Daredevil into the main MCU are not due to rights complications but rather the "things to navigate" inherent in discussions between studios.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled for release on July 31, followed by Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse on June 18, 2027, which will conclude Miles Morales' animated trilogy.
