Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to receive an IMAX release in the United States starting this Thursday, August 7th. The film will share IMAX screens with "The Odyssey," which is expected to continue its run through mid-September. While screenings may be limited due to the length of "The Odyssey," fans will have the opportunity to experience Spider-Man: Brand New Day in the premium large format.

This domestic IMAX release follows a period of anticipation for Marvel fans, who were initially disappointed that the film did not debut in IMAX alongside its initial theatrical launch. Reports suggest that the delay was due to extended IMAX exclusivity for Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," a common occurrence that often impacts other major releases. Sony reportedly opted not to wait for the exclusivity window to expire, choosing a staggered release strategy for the IMAX version in the U.S.

Despite the initial delay, the film achieved significant box office success. Spider-Man: Brand New Day recorded the second-highest global opening weekend in history, trailing only "Avengers: Endgame." It also surpassed "Avengers: Endgame's" domestic opening weekend, grossing $360 million to Endgame's $357 million.

The film did receive an IMAX release in China, Japan, and South Korea last week, as "The Odyssey" has not yet opened in those territories. Director Destin Daniel Cretton had previously stated that "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" was "made for the IMAX experience," noting that certain sequences were filmed specifically with the format in mind. He emphasized that the immersive qualities of IMAX, including its frame, size, and sound, are intended to provide an unparalleled viewing experience.
