The action choreography for Spider-Man: Brand New Day drew inspiration from Insomniac Games' recent Spider-Man titles, according to star Tom Holland and director Destin Daniel Cretton. Holland revealed that many of the finishing moves seen in the film were directly influenced by the PlayStation games, which he was actively playing during the movie's production.

"A lot of the action," Holland stated in an interview with IGN at the film's premiere event, "from the games inspired Holland, as he explained to IGN during the premiere event for Brand New Day. A lot of the finishing moves. I was actually playing the game last night. For me, a lot of those finishing moves, a lot of our stuff was influenced by that stuff."

Cretton elaborated that this inspiration was not limited to Holland. Many of the film's stunt performers were also avid gamers and brought visual references from the games to the production team. These stunt performers would capture screenshots of particularly striking moves from the games and present them to the writers and directors.

"A lot of the action designers and stunt people we had were huge gamers," Cretton said. "They were able to experience things in those games that made them excited, and they would just screengrab the moves they really liked and bring them into the writers' room and show it to me. And then we'd be like, 'Yeah, that's sick. Let's try to figure out how to do that for real.'"

In Insomniac's Spider-Man games, players can utilize powerful finishing moves to quickly incapacitate enemies once a sufficient energy meter has been filled. These sequences often involve intricate web-slinging maneuvers and dynamic power displays to swiftly dispatch foes.

The integration of the new movie's "Fresh Start" costume into Marvel's Spider-Man 2 further bridges the gap between the film and the game. The game also received a PS5 Pro update alongside the costume addition. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slated for release on July 31 and is projected to be a significant box office draw, with some analysts predicting opening weekend revenues of up to $190 million domestically and $465 million globally.
