Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, may have introduced a significant threat for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. The film's events, particularly Peter Parker's efforts to manage his own developing powers, could have far-reaching consequences that directly impact the battle against Doctor Doom.

In the film, Peter Parker experiences a biological shift as his "arachnid hormones" become unbalanced, leading to a temporary growth of spinnerets reminiscent of Tobey Maguire's portrayal of the character. Seeking a solution, he consults Bruce Banner, who is managing his own transformations with an inhibitor device. Inspired by Banner's approach, Peter develops a similar technology designed to suppress powers stemming from sources like gamma radiation, radioactive spider bites, or the X-gene.

Peter utilizes one inhibitor for himself and another to subdue the telepathic mutant Jean Grey. This technology subsequently falls into the possession of the United States Department of Damage Control. They employ it to control Jean while simultaneously attempting to decipher the mechanics of her telepathic abilities, with the goal of replicating them for others. This pursuit of power suppression and the potential for mimicking mutant abilities directly echoes the function of the Sentinels, the formidable robots observed in the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. These robots are speculated to originate from another reality, given their significant role in X-Men: Days of Future Past, a film whose characters are confirmed to appear in Doomsday. However, Damage Control could also leverage Peter's invention and the intelligence gathered from studying Jean and her sister, Sara, to initiate their own Sentinel program.

The creation of Sentinels is often born from human fear of mutants, though these advanced robots frequently turn against their creators. Jean Grey certainly provided Damage Control with ample reason for apprehension, having unleashed the Hulk within their facility and narrowly failing to kill the organization's leader. MJ's observation that Peter's suppression tech is the kind one might use "on a monster" underscores the inherent danger. While such a device might be a necessity for Bruce Banner, Peter's own need for it was questionable, and he appeared to be managing his mutations more effectively before its creation. His fear of these changes, however, resulted in a dangerous tool that is now poised to significantly impact the MCU, particularly with the upcoming introduction of the X-Men in their own dedicated film.
