August has proven to be a strong month for blockbuster cinema, with "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" continuing its impressive theatrical run and "The Odyssey" achieving a new career milestone for director Christopher Nolan. The latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man saga is rapidly approaching the $2 billion mark worldwide.

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" secured the third-best second weekend in domestic box office history, earning an estimated $145 million. This brings its domestic total to $655 million and its international earnings to $1.01 billion, pushing its global cumulative gross to a staggering $1.67 billion. With considerable time left in its theatrical release, reaching $2 billion appears highly probable, which would surpass the lifetime gross of its predecessor, "Spider-Man: No Way Home."

Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" has become his highest-grossing film of all time. The nearly three-hour adaptation of Homer's epic poem debuted with a historic $264 million worldwide and has now accumulated $1.104 billion. This figure surpasses the previous record holder in Nolan's filmography, "The Dark Knight Rises," which grossed $1.084 billion, and "The Dark Knight" at $1.008 billion.

The film has also set a record for IMAX, becoming its highest-grossing project globally with $289.3 million in its theaters, a fitting achievement considering it was filmed entirely using IMAX technology. "The Odyssey" reached the $1 billion milestone in its fourth weekend, demonstrating strong audience draw and critical reception, earning an 8/10 in IGN's review which noted it as "a pretty great moviegoing experience all the same."

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" received a 7/10 from IGN, with the review highlighting its effective focus on the character's core elements: inner turmoil, heroic actions in New York City, and heroic presentation.

Other films released this weekend include "One Night Only," which grossed an estimated $5.7 million domestically, and "Super Troopers 3," which earned $4 million, securing the third and fourth positions at the box office respectively.
