Squadron 42 Appears on Steam With System Requirements

Squadron 42, the singleplayer component of the ambitious space simulation Star Citizen, has reappeared with a Steam page that includes system requirements. This development comes after game director Chris Roberts announced in August that the game would be delayed out of 2026 to avoid competing with Grand Theft Auto 6.

The Steam listing presents a set of system requirements that notably do not mention ray tracing or DirectX 12, though it does specify a substantial 150GB installation size.

Despite the ongoing delays and past technical issues, such as a recently criticized livestream, the presence of a Steam page with concrete specifications marks a tangible step for the project. The game's release history has been extensive enough to warrant its own wiki page detailing past release dates.

A new trailer has also been released, focusing on the military science fiction aspects and featuring a cast of notable actors. Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, and Rhona Mitra are among the returning cast members. The trailer also showcases the player character and hints at the narrative direction.

The Steam page lists Squadron 42 with a release window of Q2 2027. If released as scheduled, it could fulfill the promise of a blend between classic space combat simulators and modern narrative-driven titles, enhanced by its celebrity cast.
