Squadron 42, the long-anticipated single-player offshoot of Star Citizen, has officially launched its Steam page, targeting a release in the second quarter of 2027. The page offers a glimpse into the cinematic space adventure that puts players in the role of a rookie in the UEE Navy.
"Live, work, and fight alongside your crew, brought to life by an all-star cast, as the story unfolds across fighter cockpits, capital ships, space stations, frontier outposts, and the front lines of a galactic war," the Steam description reads. "Through intense combat, sacrifice, and the choices you make when it matters most, you will earn your place, your rank, and your legacy. You don’t watch the rise of a hero. You become one."
A newly released trailer emphasizes the game's blend of action and narrative, drawing comparisons to franchises like Mass Effect and Star Trek. The footage showcases dogfights, interactions with crew members, and the visually rich environments players will explore. A significant portion of the trailer is dedicated to revealing the extensive roster of famous actors involved in the project. While Gary Oldman's involvement was previously known, the trailer also confirms appearances from Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, Andy Serkis, Henry Cavill, Mark Strong, and John Rhys-Davies, among others.
The game's Steam page now allows players to wishlist Squadron 42, signaling a shift towards its eventual launch after years of development and teasing by Cloud Imperium Games.
