Square Enix has released update Version 1.1.0 for its HD-2D RPG, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, introducing a highly requested feature that allows players to silence the game's support character, Faie. The update addresses a significant point of criticism since the game's launch on June 18: the constant commentary from the fairy companion.

Faie, described as a Navi-like fairy, provides frequent observations and hints about the game world. While intended as a helpful guide, many players found her dialogue to be intrusive, detracting from the experience of exploration and discovery. This feedback was consistent from the game's demo release through to its full launch. Square Enix had previously implemented an option to decrease the frequency of Faie's dialogue, but this proved insufficient for many players.

The Version 1.1.0 patch, detailed on the game's Steam page, includes a short but impactful list of changes. The primary addition is the option to "turn off support character voice," effectively allowing players to mute Faie entirely. The developer expressed surprise at the strong player reaction to Faie's chatter, having grown fond of the character during development, according to producer Naofumi Matsushita.

Despite the companion's vocal nature, The Adventures of Elliot has been praised for its charm and presentation. The game utilizes Square Enix's HD-2D visual style, reminiscent of SNES-era classics. It offers tight pacing, varied boss fights, engaging puzzles, and a fairy-tale aesthetic enhanced by its music and visuals. The game spans four distinct time periods and features a compact map with a 25-hour runtime, encouraging exploration without feeling overwhelming.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is currently available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
