GSC Game World has announced that STALKER 2's first major expansion, titled "Cost of Hope," will launch on August 20. Coinciding with the expansion's release, the base game will receive a significant free 2.0 update.

The new expansion, "Cost of Hope," was revealed via a trailer and will introduce new gameplay elements to the survival horror shooter. Players will step into the role of protagonist Skif, who investigates a mysterious signal leading to previously unexplored regions within the game's post-apocalyptic Zone. This marks the first substantial downloadable content for STALKER 2 since its 2024 debut.

The expansion's synopsis suggests that the ongoing conflict between the game's prominent factions, Duty and Freedom, will escalate dramatically. Skif will face choices regarding allegiance while navigating new environments such as the Iron Forest and the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. GSC Game World estimates "Cost of Hope" will offer dozens of hours of additional gameplay, introducing new weaponry, equipment, and adversaries.

Players opting not to purchase the expansion will still benefit from the free 2.0 update on August 20. This update includes a substantial upgrade for the game's engine, moving it from Unreal Engine 5.1 to 5.5.4. Additionally, the free update will bring new content tailored for the base game, with further details to be shared by GSC Game World closer to the release date.

Since its initial release, STALKER 2 has undergone continuous refinement by GSC Game World. The simultaneous launch of "Cost of Hope" and the free 2.0 update signifies key advancements in the game's ongoing development.
