A recent Star Citizen livestream, intended to demonstrate the game's Siege of Orison mission, devolved into a public display of technical failures and interpersonal awkwardness. The developers at Cloud Imperium Games hosted the event on August 5th to showcase the mission's intended functionality, as it has faced serial delays due to ongoing technical issues.

Content director Jared Huckaby stated at the beginning of the stream that the goal was to show "how it's supposed to work." However, the demonstration was plagued by bugs, and the developers appeared to struggle with the gameplay. The stream culminated in a moment where the development team realized they had "wiped" after an hour and a half of attempting the mission. In a subsequent awkward exchange, developer Elliot told fellow developer Olli to "kill himself," which he then clarified meant "in game."

The stream concluded with Huckaby informing the group they were out of time. He then approached Olli, identified as the developer behind the project, and ended the stream by striking him with the phrase "It's your show, wrap it up." Olli appeared confused before attempting to salvage the situation by stating he had fun, though his demeanor suggested otherwise.

Star Citizen, which was announced in 2012 and remains in early access without an official launch date, has raised over a billion dollars through crowdfunding. This includes sales of expensive starter packs and ships. The recent livestream disaster has drawn significant attention, with numerous videos and Reddit threads discussing the event. Some community members have noted that the stream offered an unusually candid look at the game's current state, with one Reddit thread expressing gratitude for the "most honest look at Star Citizen in months."
