Star Trek Warp Drive Arrives in Magic: The Gathering's Secret Lair This November

Magic: The Gathering is boldly going where it's never gone before with a new Secret Lair drop series inspired by Star Trek. Wizards of the Coast announced the "Set Phasers To Superdrop" on November 9, featuring six distinct card sets that draw from the rich lore of the Star Trek universe. Each drop will be available for $40 in foil and $30 in non-foil, while supplies last.

The "Set Phasers To Superdrop" is divided into thematic installments, each celebrating a different facet of the franchise. The "Beam Us Up" drop focuses on "blinking" mechanics, which involve removing permanents from the board and returning them to utilize "enters the battlefield" effects. The cards in this set are reversible, showing Star Trek characters in space on one side and safely aboard their starship on the other.

Additionally, the "KHAAAAAAAAN!" drop pays homage to the 1982 film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, featuring cards that highlight key moments and characters from the movie, including Khan Noonien Singh. The "Lower Decks" drop brings the animated series' characters and art style to Magic, with cards representing Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford, and Tendi. This set also introduces Silas Renn, Seeker Adept, and Thrasios, Triton Hero, to Secret Lair.

Fans of the warrior race will appreciate the "tlhIngan maH!" drop, which centers on Klingons. These five cards are also reversible, with text available in both English and the Klingon language. The "New Worlds" drop offers a set of five basic lands, with two of each type, featuring artwork by Magic artist Alayna Danner that depicts various planets visited throughout Star Trek's history.

A sixth and final drop is slated for reveal at a later date. Furthermore, any customer spending $200 or more on the Star Trek Secret Lair products will receive a bonus card, "Transporter Boondoggle!" (Return of the Wildspeaker).

The full Star Trek expansion for Magic: The Gathering is scheduled to launch on November 13 in local game stores and major retailers. Prerelease events will commence a week earlier, on November 6, at participating local game stores.
