Timothy Zahn, a pivotal figure in the Star Wars Expanded Universe with his original Thrawn trilogy, is crossing over into the Star Trek universe. IDW Publishing announced at NYCC that Zahn is writing a new graphic novel, "Star Trek: Roc's Egg," which will feature illustrations by veteran Star Trek artist Ángel Hernández.
The story is set aboard the iconic Deep Space 9 station, where a Federation investigation into the destruction of a valuable artifact, known as a Roc's Egg, uncovers a deeper conspiracy involving a secret auction, dangerous criminals, and a murder. The official summary describes a complex mystery where "everyone has something to hide—and the truth may be more valuable than the treasure itself."
Zahn expressed his excitement about contributing to the Star Trek franchise, stating, “My association with Star Trek goes all the way back to 1966 and the original TV series. Now, after sixty years, I’ve been given the chance to add my own small grace note to that rich and vibrant symphony. This is a huge honor and privilege, and one which I will always cherish.”
"Star Trek: Roc's Egg" is scheduled for release in October 2027.
