Star Wars Funday Football to Air During Super Bowl LXI with Animated Alternate Telecast

Disney is set to offer a unique viewing experience for Super Bowl LXI with "Star Wars Funday Football," an animated alternate telecast that will bring the Star Wars universe to the NFL field. This special broadcast will utilize data visualization technology from Sony’s Beyond Sports to recreate the live game action with animated characters and Star Wars elements.

During key moments of the game, Star Wars characters are expected to appear, potentially seeing familiar faces like Luke Skywalker involved in game plays. Anthony Daniels, the original voice of C-3PO, will lend his talents to the broadcast in some capacity. The telecast aims to blend the excitement of American football with the iconic elements of the Star Wars saga.

"Star Wars Funday Football" will be available on Disney Plus, Disney Channel, and Disney XD. Super Bowl LXI is scheduled to take place on February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, marking ESPN's first time airing a Super Bowl.

This event arrives as Star Wars celebrates its 50th anniversary, with 2027 also slated to see the theatrical re-release of the original 1977 film, "Star Wars," in 70 mm IMAX on February 19. Additionally, the new film "Star Wars: Starfighter," directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, is set for release on May 28, 2027. The franchise also continues to expand its presence in video games, with titles like "Star Wars Zero Company" and "Star Wars: Galactic Racer" offering new experiences for fans.
