Disney and the NFL are set to launch "Star Wars Funday Football," an animated alternate telecast of Super Bowl LXI, which will stream live on Disney+ and the ESPN App, and air on Disney Channel and Disney XD on February 14, 2027. This production will feature characters from across the Lucasfilm franchise, with Anthony Daniels confirmed to return as the voice of C-3PO.
This marks the fourth such animated broadcast from ESPN, Disney, and the NFL, following previous iterations like "Toy Story Funday Football" in 2023, "The Simpsons Funday Football" in 2024, and "Monsters Funday Football" in 2025. The "Funday Football" series utilizes data visualization technology from Sony's Beyond Sports, which transforms real-time player tracking data into animation.
The "Star Wars Funday Football" broadcast will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the original Star Wars film. A newly restored version of the 1977 movie is scheduled to return to cinemas on February 19, 2027, just five days after the animated Super Bowl event.
