Biddy Blas, the flamboyant racer from Star Wars: Galactic Racer, is voiced by Richard Summers-Calvert, an indie UK professional wrestler and actor. Summers-Calvert, who performs under the ring name "The Spectacular Tw*t" Charles Crowley and has appeared in promotions like Ring of Honor, expressed his surprise at the character's burgeoning popularity.
"I could tell Biddy Blas was gonna be popular early on," Summers-Calvert told Soundsphere. "Then I woke up the next day and he'd blown up a bit, and then the next day it kind of dawned on me that this isn’t normal." Since the game's release, Summers-Calvert has seen a significant increase in online engagement, including fan messages and "Biddy Blas thirst traps."
For the role, Summers-Calvert recalled that the audition brief specified a "small man who was constantly on the edge and overcompensating." This description inspired him to adopt a higher vocal pitch for Biddy Blas. Game directors approved the performance, though delivering lines in Huttese, the Star Wars language, presented a challenge.
The character's popularity has recently surged, with Biddy Blas becoming the subject of numerous memes and even being referenced by sports teams, such as the Pittsburgh Steelers. This phenomenon highlights the growing connection between professional wrestling and video games, with performers often spending their downtime with consoles and incorporating gaming references into their personas and move sets, as seen with wrestlers like Kenny Omega and Roman Reigns.
