Fantasy Flight Games has announced the release date for the next expansion in its Star Wars: Unlimited trading card game. Titled Ashes of the Empire, the new set will launch on July 17 and will focus on the period following the fall of the Galactic Empire and the rise of the New Republic. This era draws heavily from recent Star Wars properties like The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew.
Star Wars: Unlimited is a fast-paced trading card game where two players battle by deploying characters, ships, and events to destroy each other's bases. The game first launched in March 2024 with the Spark of Rebellion set, which introduced cards centered on the original trilogy era and characters such as Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Leia Organa. Ashes of the Empire is slated to be the eighth set released for the game.
The Ashes of the Empire set will introduce over 260 new cards to the game. Two new mechanics are being added: Advantage and Support. Advantage is a token that grants a unit a temporary +1/+0 attack bonus until it completes an attack or defense action. The Support keyword allows a ready friendly unit to participate in an attack alongside the unit with Support, granting the attacking unit the Support unit's abilities as well.
This expansion will feature characters including Rey, Luke Skywalker, Emperor Palpatine, Din Djarin, Bo-Katan Kryze, and Sabine Wren. Two pre-built 50-card Spotlight Leader decks will be available. One deck is led by Luke Skywalker and focuses on healing units, while the other is led by Emperor Palpatine and emphasizes granting Advantage tokens to deal more damage. The set will be available in various formats, including prerelease boxes, booster packs, carbonite edition boosters, and the Spotlight decks.
