Fantasy Flight Games has announced significant changes to its trading card game, Star Wars: Unlimited, with the upcoming expansion "Homeworlds." The announcement, made during the 2026 Galactic Championship in Las Vegas, signals a major commitment to the game's future and introduces innovations that aim to reshape gameplay.
The Homeworlds set, slated for release in October, will feature over 260 new cards, focusing on iconic planets, creatures, and communities within the Star Wars universe. It will also introduce pre-constructed Spotlight Decks for Chewbacca and Grand Moff Tarkin.
Chewbacca's abilities will allow players to utilize units for attacking other units, even when exhausted. However, it is Grand Moff Tarkin who presents a particularly impactful new mechanic. As a Spotlight Leader, Tarkin can deploy the Death Star upon entering play, with the potential to destroy an opponent's base if it has 10 or fewer health remaining. This addition is poised to significantly alter late-game strategies for players.
Homeworlds also introduces two new token types: Beast, which can be used to upgrade units, and Weakness, designed to weaken enemy units. Additionally, a new keyword, Fortify, will allow players to upgrade their bases for the first time, opening up entirely new strategic avenues.
Beyond Homeworlds, Fantasy Flight Games has outlined a future release schedule for Star Wars: Unlimited. Following Homeworlds in October, the "Icons" set is set to launch in November 2027. Further planned releases include "Legacy of Skywalker," "System Overload" (a Twin Suns set), "Icons (2028 Edition)," and "Galaxy At War" (another Twin Suns set). While specific details about these future sets remain undisclosed, the naming suggests potential themes such as the sequel trilogy era, a droid focus for "System Overload," and factional conflicts for "Galaxy At War."
Organized play for Star Wars: Unlimited will continue with Season 2 of the "Ashes of the Empire" program. Sector qualifiers are scheduled for August and September in various international locations, including Berlin, Indianapolis, Fort Worth, and Turin. The regional championship is set to take place in Utrecht, Netherlands, from October 30 to November 1.
In conjunction with the new set, merchandise collaborator Gamegenic will release new accessories designed for the Homeworlds expansion, offering players enhanced ways to organize and protect their collections.
