Bit Reactor, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Star Wars tactics game Zero Company, has undergone further layoffs. The exact number of affected employees has not been disclosed. This follows a period where the studio had previously furloughed its entire team, only to rehire some of those staff members.
Several developers took to LinkedIn to announce their departures. Among them was senior environment artist Ryan Lopez, who had been with the studio for three and a half years, including a recent three-and-a-half-month furlough. "While it stings, I'm really proud of what we built together," Lopez stated in a LinkedIn post.
UI Engineer Tyler Eichten and senior quality assurance analyst Ryan Mosher were also among those let go. Mosher had spent four years across Firaxis and 1047 Games before joining Bit Reactor in October 2024.
This latest round of layoffs marks a continued period of instability for Bit Reactor. In September, reports indicated that the studio had furloughed up to 80% of its staff shortly before Zero Company's launch, with claims that the company was facing financial difficulties. At the time, a former senior technical artist described the project's development environment as one of "shocking austerity."
Despite these internal struggles, Zero Company achieved significant commercial success shortly after its release, selling one million copies within a month. Studio CEO Greg Foertsch had previously attributed the furlough to "unexpected business developments outside of our control" and deemed it necessary to facilitate future rehiring. However, the recent layoffs indicate that the game's performance has not been sufficient to retain all employees.
Zero Company has been met with widespread critical praise. Ted Litchfield of PC Gamer lauded it as "one of the best games of 2026 and a new all-timer Star Wars videogame" in his review. The success of Zero Company, alongside other recent Star Wars titles like Star Wars: Galactic Racer, has reportedly pleased Lucasfilm Games, which is looking to commission more creative Star Wars games.
