Star Wars Zero Company, a highly anticipated title, is currently plagued by a significant number of technical issues on PC, casting a shadow over its otherwise engaging gameplay. These problems appear to be particularly pronounced for games built with Unreal Engine 5, a trend noted in recent titles.
Despite early positive impressions of the game itself, players are encountering a frustrating array of bugs and performance problems across various hardware configurations. These issues range from persistent micro-stutters and driver crashes that necessitate system restarts, to game-breaking freezes and mission-ending crashes that result in lost progress.
One player's experience highlights the inconsistent nature of these technical difficulties, with different problems manifesting on distinct PCs. A Razer Blade 16 equipped with an RTX 5090 and a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, for instance, suffered from severe micro-stutters in cutscenes and frequent driver crashes. Adjusting to a Lenovo Legion Go 2 running on Linux proved equally problematic, requiring a drastic reduction in resolution and graphical settings to achieve a barely playable 25-30fps, with a recurring issue of the game crashing at the conclusion of missions.
Even a top-tier desktop rig featuring an AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D, 32GB of RAM, and an RTX 5090 struggled to maintain smooth performance. At 4K with Ultra settings, the game hovered around 70-80fps, with the added frustration of mid-mission freezes. These issues persisted even after the application of a day-zero patch released by developer Bit Reactor.
While the core gameplay and the Star Wars prequel era setting have garnered praise, the current state of the PC version makes for a consistently headache-inducing experience for many players. Although the game is expected to achieve greater stability through future updates, its current technical shortcomings are a significant impediment to enjoying what is otherwise described as a fantastic game.
