Star Wars Zero Company, Bit Reactor's turn-based tactics game in the vein of XCOM, has reportedly surpassed one million copies sold, according to estimates from industry analyst Alinea Analytics. This sales figure is particularly notable given that a significant portion of the development team was furloughed without pay prior to the game's release, a situation reportedly stemming from internal disputes and financial issues.
The game has found its strongest audience on Steam, accounting for 69.9 percent of all sales. PlayStation sales represent 19.9 percent, with Xbox sales, including those via PC, making up 10.2 percent. Rhys Elliott of Alinea projected that Zero Company generated approximately $50 million in revenue since its August 27th launch. While Elliott described this as a "respectable" figure for the genre, especially considering the crowded release window and the strength of the Star Wars brand, console versions have yielded higher revenue per unit due to their higher price point.
Geographically, the game's player base is heavily concentrated in North America and Europe, which together account for 90 percent of its audience, with only five percent in Asia. Star Wars Zero Company has also placed among the top five highest-earning games based on major intellectual property for the year, trailing significantly behind the top earner, the James Bond game 007 First Light, which grossed $309.8 million.
Zero Company joins a growing list of games that have recently crossed the one million sales mark, including The Blood of Dawnwalker and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. While a full review of Star Wars Zero Company is forthcoming, early impressions noted that the game successfully captures the spirit of "Star Wars games should feel less like the movies and more like the toys."
