Star Wars Zero Company, developed by Bit Reactor—a studio composed of former XCOM veterans—will not feature official mod support at launch. Lead producer Caydence Funk confirmed this decision in a recent Discord Q&A, stating that while the team has "a lot of respect for the modding community," there are no plans for official mod capabilities.

This announcement comes as a disappointment to many fans, particularly those who followed the success of the XCOM series, which has a robust modding scene, especially for XCOM 2. The latter game's official modding tools have contributed significantly to its longevity and appeal, even inspiring numerous Star Wars-themed modifications that brought the galaxy far, far away into Firaxis' tactical gameplay. The desire for similar customization in Star Wars Zero Company has been a frequently requested feature on the game's Discord server.

Despite the lack of official support, it is anticipated that the modding community will still find ways to alter the game. The developers have indicated that there will be no microtransactions, which in games like Firaxis' Marvel's Midnight Suns have sometimes been undermined by player-created content. This suggests that Bit Reactor may not actively discourage unofficial modifications, as there are no in-game purchases for mods to conflict with.

Fans have expressed that official mod support could be a key factor in the game's long-term engagement, with some suggesting that Zero Company might not surpass XCOM 2 in their personal rotation without it. The possibility remains that official mod support could be considered post-launch if the game proves to be a significant success, but for now, players will have to rely on unofficial community efforts for extensive customization or gameplay overhauls.
