StarCraft Shooter Will Not Be Exclusive to Xbox, Blizzard Confirms

Blizzard Entertainment has stated that its upcoming open-world StarCraft shooter will not be exclusive to Xbox platforms upon its projected 2030 launch. This confirmation comes from representatives of the developer in recent email exchanges with Kotaku.

While the initial announcement at BlizzCon featured a "Dominion" cinematic trailer, details regarding the game's release platforms were scarce. Previous titles in the StarCraft real-time strategy series have traditionally been available on PC. However, initial platform confirmation for the new entry came from Xbox UK, which indicated an "Xbox console" release was planned.

In response to inquiries about platform exclusivity, Blizzard representatives clarified that the game "won't be exclusive." When pressed on whether this meant availability on additional consoles or simply a PC release, the developer's team indicated that they would issue a correction if the game were to be labeled as an Xbox-exclusive. This suggests a plan to support at least one platform beyond Xbox, though specific details regarding PlayStation or Nintendo Switch 2 availability remain undisclosed.

The developer acknowledges that with four years until release, the console gaming landscape may undergo significant changes. Microsoft is reportedly developing a new family of devices under its "Project Helix" initiative, with some speculation pointing to a launch as early as next year. Sony's PlayStation 6 is also expected to be available by StarCraft's release window.

Despite the considerable development timeline and limited initial information beyond the cinematic trailer, Blizzard expressed confidence in the 2030 release window for the new StarCraft game.
