Blizzard has confirmed that the newly announced StarCraft title, revealed at BlizzCon, will not be an exclusive release. The statement comes after inquiries following the game's confirmation for Xbox on a UK social media account.
A spokesperson for Blizzard told Kotaku that they "can only say for now that StarCraft won’t be exclusive." When pressed for clarification on whether this meant it would also appear on other consoles besides Xbox or if it simply meant it would be available on PC in addition to Xbox, the company indicated that any reporting of the game being Xbox-exclusive would require a correction.
While Blizzard has historically focused on PC releases, with both previous StarCraft entries being PC-centric, the company acknowledged that PC and Battle.net are foundational to their operations. The new StarCraft, described as a shooter, is therefore expected to be available on PC. However, the phrasing "won't be exclusive" suggests the possibility of a release on other consoles as well, though no specific platforms have been officially confirmed beyond Xbox and PC.
The ambiguity leaves room for speculation regarding potential releases on platforms like PlayStation or even Nintendo Switch, but for now, the only definitive statement is that the game will be available on at least one platform other than Xbox.
