A fan theory posits that a hidden code within Starfield's character creation menu might have revealed the codename for the upcoming Elder Scrolls 6. The theory gained traction after Xbox CEO Asha Sharma referred to Bethesda's next RPG as "The Elder Scrolls VI: ********," with the eight asterisks matching the length of the potential codename.

Three years ago, a Starfield player observed a specific employee number, 190514-2009140512, displayed during the game's character creation process. This player identified a pattern by pairing the numbers and assigning them letters based on their alphabetical position, which reportedly spells out "Sentinel." This eight-letter word aligns with the missing part of the title Sharma alluded to.

Further investigation by players revealed that Bethesda altered this specific number between the game's 2022 gameplay reveal and its playable release in 2023. The consistency of the number across all players suggests this change was intentional, lending credence to the "Sentinel" theory. The conviction of fans was reportedly bolstered by a former Bethesda employee, Michael Kirkbride, known for his work on The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. Kirkbride is said to have responded affirmatively to a social media post speculating that "Sentinel" was the word Sharma omitted.

This potential reveal occurs amidst reports of union workers at Bethesda protesting mass layoffs by Xbox on the same day Sharma visited the studios. The protests included a large inflatable rat accompanied by small red flags symbolizing laid-off ZeniMax workers.

The Elder Scrolls 6 currently lacks an official release date, though it is anticipated to launch in 2028 or later. Concerns have been raised by Bethesda workers regarding the impact of significant layoffs, particularly among veteran developers and the quality assurance team, on the future quality of the anticipated title.
