Steam Beta Introduces Achievement Sets to Tidy Up Trophy Collections

Valve has rolled out a new feature in beta for Steam that allows developers to organize a game's achievements into distinct sets. This initiative aims to provide a clearer picture of player progress, particularly for games that receive ongoing content updates through DLC, expansions, or seasonal events.

According to Valve's announcement, achievements added with new game content can complicate a player's 100% completion status. Achievement Sets are designed to mitigate this by enabling developers to create separate groupings, such as distinguishing base game achievements from those tied to downloadable content or multiplayer modes. This could also include time-limited sets for seasonal content, which would only be earnable during specific in-game events.

Several games are already supporting the new Achievement Sets in beta. The initial list includes Against the Storm, Age of Wonders 4, American Truck Simulator, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Crusader Kings 3, Dredge, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Forza Horizon 5, Flock Around, He is Coming, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2, PowerWash Simulator, PowerWash Simulator 2, Team Fortress 2, and Victoria 3.

Alongside Achievement Sets, Valve is also beta testing an updated achievements page. This revamped interface offers a summary of overall progress and individual set progress, along with details on specific achievements. Global completion rates are now a toggleable option on this page, and search functionality has been enhanced with filters for achievement sets and unlocked or locked achievements. Players can also compare their totals with up to three friends.

To access these new features, users must opt into the Steam Client Beta. Instructions for joining the beta program are available on Steam's help pages.
