Steam Charts Don't Measure Fun: Splitgate: Arena Reloaded Faces Mixed PC Launch

Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, the Halo- and Portal-inspired arena shooter from 1047 Games, re-launched on December 17 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S after a July 2025 pivot to rebuild Splitgate 2. The move came amid layoffs at 1047 and the decision to pull both the sequel and its predecessor offline while promising "big, sweeping changes." The re-launch introduced a rebuilt progression system, new and reworked maps, and more.

Early Steam numbers are modest: roughly 2,300 concurrent players at launch, with just over 800 players remaining on Steam at the time of this report, per SteamDB. It's not the full story, however, as the game also released on consoles and the Epic Games Store, where public metrics are less transparent.

1047 responded to the chatter on social media with a pointed rebuke: "Steam Charts don't measure fun. They show one number, on one platform, at one given moment. They don't show the full picture or what it feels like to actually play, and they definitely don't capture the community that's actively helping shape what Arena Reloaded is becoming (including upcoming content like Arena Royale)."

The studio stressed that Arena Reloaded is a work in progress built around community feedback and ongoing updates. It emphasized that the numbers on Steam do not define the broader experience or future plans.

As context for expectations, IGN's coverage of Splitgate 2's launch last year gave the game a 7/10, a benchmark referenced in reporting around the reworked title. The latest push aims to broaden the audience beyond the existing fan base.

1047 Signals continued commitment to content: Arena Royale is planned for release in the near future, with the team promising additional maps, progression changes, and ongoing balance work to keep the player base engaged, regardless of platform.
