Valve is set to significantly alter how games are showcased on Steam's front page starting in early 2027. The digital storefront will move from a manually curated calendar of featured titles to a dynamic system of personalized recommendations, tailored to individual user preferences and purchase histories. This marks a substantial departure from the current model, where a limited number of slots on the front page were historically determined by Valve employees, often favoring larger titles.
According to Valve, initial tests of this new approach led to a tenfold increase in the number of games featured daily within the Discounts & Events section. These experiments also demonstrated measurable improvements in store page visits and wishlist additions. The company stated that its objective is to enable developers to concentrate on creating compelling games and deals, rather than expending effort to secure promotional placement through direct appeals to Valve staff.
This shift is expected to democratize visibility on Steam, leveling the playing field for smaller developers and publishers who may lack the marketing budgets to compete with major AAA studios. The manual scheduling for curated placements in sections like Weekend Deals, Midweek Deals, and Daily Deals has already been suspended. Valve plans to release updated tools to assist developers in managing their discounts and sale events more effectively.
The announcement arrives just before the week-long Steam Autumn Sale, scheduled to begin on October 1. Following this, a new Steam Next Fest is slated for the end of October. The remainder of 2026 will feature themed events, including Steam Scream V Fest, Auto-Battler RPG Fest, and Cooking Fest, culminating in the Steam Winter Sale in December.
