Valve's latest Steam hardware survey indicates a significant shift in PC component preferences, with 32GB of RAM now being the most common configuration among surveyed players. The data, gathered from optional and anonymous user contributions, shows 42.22% of respondents utilizing 32GB of RAM, surpassing the 37.82% who reported having 16GB. Configurations with 8GB of RAM are now used by only 6.47% of users.
This trend towards higher RAM capacities has drawn commentary, with some noting the stark contrast to historical hardware capabilities and current component availability concerns. The survey also highlights a notable increase in users who identify their primary language as Simplified Chinese, with a 7.42% rise in respondents from this demographic.
Beyond RAM and language, the survey data indicates a discernible uptick in the adoption of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 graphics cards. On the more unusual end of the spectrum, a small percentage of users, 0.03%, are reportedly running systems with 11 CPUs.
The survey's author acknowledges that participants may be more inclined to report higher-end hardware configurations, suggesting the data might not fully represent the broader PC gaming audience. Nevertheless, the figures offer a snapshot of the evolving hardware landscape among a segment of Steam's user base. A collection of graphs from the survey visually represents this data.
