Stellaris Celebrates 10 Years with Free Weekend and Major Discount

Stellaris, the expansive sci-fi grand strategy game from Paradox Development Studio, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a limited-time free play event on Steam and a significant discount on the base game and its numerous DLCs. Players can jump into Stellaris for free until June 22.

Following the free weekend, those who wish to purchase the game will find it available at a 70% discount. This sale extends until June 25, reducing the base game's price to $15. The anniversary edition, which bundles the Galactic Paragons, Aquatics, and Leviathans DLCs, is discounted to $18. For players interested in acquiring the complete Stellaris experience, all DLC is available for just under $148. Alternatively, a subscription model offers access to all DLC for $10 per month.

Launched in 2016, Stellaris has undergone substantial evolution over its decade of existence. PC Gamer initially scored the game at 70%, highlighting its compelling early game as a sign of its potential as an "instant strategy classic." Subsequent updates and expansions have significantly transformed the game, with Game Director Stephen Muray noting that later versions are almost unrecognizable from the initial release, likening it to the "Spaceship of Theseus."

Alongside the anniversary festivities, a new expansion, Nomads, has been released. While Senior Guide Writer Sean Martin suggested in initial impressions that the DLC might "use some work," he acknowledged the welcome addition of Mongolian throat singing and new nomadic factions to the game's evolving roster.
