Actor Stephen Root has confirmed his involvement in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6, revealing details before Rockstar Games' official marketing campaign. Root, whose voice is recognizable from his long-standing roles as Bill Dauterive and Buck Strickland in 'King of the Hill,' shared his participation at the BAFTA TV Tea Party.

Root stated that fans identified his character from the initial trailers and extended look at the game, attributing this early recognition to his established voice work. He is set to portray Brian Heder, described by Rockstar as a "classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling" in the game's Leonida setting. Heder allows Jason, one of GTA 6's protagonists, to reside on his property in exchange for assistance with "local shakedowns."

This confirmation comes as Root is nominated for an Emmy for his performance as Wyck Crawford in 'Widow's Bay.' Beyond his animated and television work, Root is also known for his roles in the '90s TV series 'NewsRadio' and the film 'Office Space.'

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, following a 13-year gap since Grand Theft Auto 5. The game will be available exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in a digital-only format. The title is set to feature a Vice City-inspired setting in Miami, a nudist camp called Cypress Cove, and will be accompanied by a dedicated PS5 controller, which has already seen aftermarket price inflation.
