Steve Buscemi, known for his roles in "Reservoir Dogs," "Fargo," and "The Big Lebowski," has been cast in the upcoming Far Cry anthology television series for FX. He joins previously announced cast members Rob McElhenney and Lizzy Caplan. Buscemi brings a prolific acting career to the project, with notable past roles in "The Sopranos," "Boardwalk Empire," and "Miracle Workers."

The Far Cry series is structured as an anthology, meaning each season will feature a new setting and a fresh ensemble of characters, mirroring the franchise's approach to its video game installments. This format allows for diverse storytelling possibilities within the established universe.

The series is executive produced by Noah Hawley, creator of the TV adaptation of "Fargo," and Rob McElhenney of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." Hawley has previously expressed that the traditional video game structure, with its gameplay and skippable cutscenes, does not inherently translate to compelling television drama. His stated aim for the Far Cry show is to engage in a "dialog" with the franchise rather than directly adapting any specific game narrative. The series is slated for release on FX and Hulu, with an international release planned for Disney+.

While a release date has not yet been announced, production on the TV series is underway. Meanwhile, Ubisoft is reportedly developing "Far Cry 7." This next main installment in the game series is being developed under the guidance of Vantage Studios, a division of Tencent that also oversees creative direction for franchises like "Assassin's Creed" and "Rainbow Six."
