Filming for The Batman Part 2 is set to resume with Steven Soderbergh taking on directorial duties for the final weeks of principal photography. Director Matt Reeves has stepped away from the production to attend to a family matter, but will remain in communication with Soderbergh.
Soderbergh, known for directing films such as Ocean's Eleven and Traffic, has expressed admiration for Reeves' work on the 2022 film The Batman. He has stated that his goal is to work with Reeves' team to generate footage that will seamlessly integrate with the existing material, allowing Reeves to complete his vision for the film during post-production. "The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film," Soderbergh said.
Production on the DC sequel had previously been temporarily paused earlier this month to allow Reeves to focus on his personal situation. DC Studios has confirmed the pause and offered its support to the filmmaker. It remains unclear if this interruption will impact the film's scheduled release date of February 18, 2028.
Robert Pattinson is confirmed to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne, with Andy Serkis returning as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. The film will also feature new cast members Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham, and Sebastian Koch. Reeves has described his connected Batman universe, including The Batman Part 2 and the Penguin spinoff series, as an "Epic Crime Saga."
