Steven Spielberg's 'Hook' Arrives on 4K Ultra HD This November

Steven Spielberg's 1991 fantasy film Hook, a reimagining of the Peter Pan story starring Robin Williams as an adult Peter Banning and Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook, is receiving a new 4K Ultra HD SteelBook release on November 17. The upcoming edition will celebrate the film's 35th anniversary and features a restoration from the original camera negative in 4K with Dolby Vision, alongside Dolby Atmos audio.

The release will also include a comprehensive collection of bonus materials. Among these is an all-new, hour-long documentary titled Hook: Never Never Ending. This documentary promises never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage from the production, interviews with Spielberg, Williams, Hoffman, and Julia Roberts, footage of the crew at work, and home movies from Spielberg himself.

What is Hook About?

Hook follows Peter Banning, a successful but work-consumed lawyer who has lost touch with his childhood self. His life takes an extraordinary turn when his children are abducted by Captain Hook, compelling Peter to return to Neverland. There, he must rediscover his lost imagination and sense of wonder to rescue his children.

Upon its release in 1991, Hook achieved significant box office success. However, critical reception was mixed, and despite receiving five Academy Award nominations, including Best Visual Effects, its legacy has remained divided. For some, the film is a cherished childhood favorite, while others view its story and sentimentality as less successful than Spielberg's other works. This anniversary release offers an opportunity to revisit the film that has garnered a devoted following over the decades.
