Stewart Copeland Confirms He's Not Scoring New Spyro Game, Cites Modernization

Stewart Copeland, co-founder and drummer of the iconic rock band The Police, has confirmed he is not composing the soundtrack for the newly announced "Spyro: A Realm Beyond." This marks a departure from his significant contributions to the early Spyro titles, including "Spyro the Dragon," "Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage," "Spyro: Year of the Dragon," and "Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly."

Copeland discussed his non-involvement in an interview with The Independent, coinciding with the premiere of a documentary about his life and career at the Raindance Film Festival. He expressed understanding for the decision, attributing it to the game's development team seeking a fresh sound for a new generation.

"It happens that way," Copeland told The Independent. "It's a new generation. They want a new generation of sound and everything… they’ve got to modernise it. No harm, no foul."

His original Spyro compositions were previously remastered with his input for the "Spyro: Reignited Trilogy," which also featured a new title track by Copeland. He has previously shared insights into his creative process for scoring the original "Spyro the Dragon" in features like PlayStation Underground.

"Spyro: A Realm Beyond" is slated for a 2027 release across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC. This upcoming title represents the first original Spyro game since 2008, having been revealed during the June 7 Xbox Games Showcase.
