Stupid Never Dies Blends Wacky Tone With Aggressive Gameplay

Stupid Never Dies, an upcoming single-player action game, is built around the core philosophy of relentless offense. Every mechanic in the game is designed to reward aggressive play, creating a constant sense of momentum and progress for the player.

The player controls Davy, a zombie on a quest to defeat the King of Monsters (KOM) and save a girl he instantly fell in love with. The game's tone is established immediately, with Davy entering the monster-filled dungeon by being flushed down a toilet, setting a quirky and chaotic stage that is amplified by its pop-punk visual style.

Davy begins with a base Zombie Style featuring regular and heavy attacks, a parry, and a vomit ability. The "Stupid Parry" is a crucial mechanic; a successful parry allows for a powerful counterattack, though it costs some HP. This lost health can be recovered by using the "Bite" ability on an enemy. Landing any attack fills a Bite gauge, and once full, Davy can perform a Bite. Bites not only restore all recoverable damage and some HP but are also key to stealing enemy abilities.

Each enemy type has a core that can be consumed. Normal enemies grant an Instant Skill, a one-time use ability, while elite enemies provide access to their unique Style. The full game will feature 11 stealable Styles, each significantly altering Davy's movement and combat. For instance, the Werewolf Style offers faster movement and attacks with parries unleashing flurries, while the Harpy Style allows for double jumps, gliding, and ranged projectiles. Players can switch between acquired Styles at any time, encouraging strategic adaptation to different situations.

Upon entering the dungeon for each run, Davy resets to Level 1, but previous runs contribute to a "blazing fast growth" system that increases the rate at which Davy levels up. This boost is cumulative and depends on how far the player progressed and how many enemies they defeated in prior attempts. This accelerated leveling ensures that even failed runs contribute to future success, maintaining the game's forward momentum.

Each dungeon run also includes a countdown timer, and failure to escape before time expires results in returning to the base with lost items. "Landing Areas" serve as checkpoints, allowing players to escape with gathered items. This introduces a risk-reward element, forcing players to decide whether to push deeper or secure their current gains.

Items gathered from successful runs can be used to craft "OT Gear" for body hacks, allowing Davy's body parts to be replaced with technology that grants new abilities like deployable barriers or spinning attacks. Additionally, collected ingredients can be used to create new "Zombie Skills," which are stat boosts and other boons activated during a run. Bosses award special materials upon their first defeat, unlocking unique upgrades such as enhanced knockback on attacks or bonus damage for knocking enemies into walls.

With a multitude of Styles, body hacks, and Zombie Skills, Stupid Never Dies offers extensive customization options. The game's developer, GPTRACK50 Inc., plans to expand upon these systems further in the full release.

An updated free demo of Stupid Never Dies is available now on Steam and PlayStation 5. The full game is scheduled for release on October 21 for both platforms.
