Subnautica 2 is preparing for a significant evolution of its early access period, which Unknown Worlds is dubbing 'Early Access 2.0.' This upcoming update is set to be the game's most substantial since its initial launch in May. Creative director Anthony Gallegos revealed that the update will include a completely new playable region featuring multiple new biomes and substantial additions to the game's narrative.
Gallegos explained that EA 2 will delve deeper into the lore surrounding the spaceship Cicada's colonists and the planet's indigenous lifeforms. Players can also expect new creatures, including those that players cannot kill, a continuation of the game's design philosophy.
The most notable addition highlighted for the update is the introduction of what is described as "one of our scariest regions we've ever done." This new area is characterized by its darkness and menacing inhabitants, though Gallegos also noted its simultaneous beauty.
Fans of the Collector Leviathan will be pleased to know that its behavior is being updated to increase its scariness, though specific details on these changes have not yet been disclosed.
Beyond the new region, the update will bring several new gadgets and biomods for players to utilize. A significant quality-of-life change will affect the dash function, which will now be integrated directly into the player's fins, removing the need to equip it as an active biomod. Additionally, the Tadpole vehicle will receive a new 'frog chassis,' granting it arms and legs for enhanced mobility.
