Developer Unknown Worlds is preparing Subnautica 2 for a significant update, which they've dubbed "early access 2.0." This next phase will introduce a new, perilous region to explore, a fresh creature, a new base room, and an additional Tadpole chassis – a bipedal "Frog" suit reminiscent of the original game's Prawn Suit.
Creative director Anthony Gallegos described the upcoming update as "the most substantial update we've done since release." The new region is characterized as "one of our scariest regions we've ever done – it's dark, it's threatening, and it's really beautiful, all at the same time." This update also promises to advance the narrative for both human colonists and other inhabitants of the game's world.
In addition to new content, several gameplay mechanics are being refined. Players will soon be able to dash while wearing fins, eliminating the need to equip a dedicated dash biomod. The Collector Leviathan, which previously had a crossover appearance in Dave the Diver, will also receive new behaviors.
Unknown Worlds has not yet provided a release date for this upcoming update.
