Unknown Worlds has released the first major update for Subnautica 2, titled 'Adaptive Measures,' introducing long-awaited features that allow players to better defend themselves against the game's aggressive fauna and enhance exploration.

Previously, players could hit creatures with the Survival Multitool, causing them to flee without clear feedback. This update adds a visible recoil animation to creatures when struck, and more significantly, transforms the Sonic Resonator into a functional weapon. The Sonic Resonator can now stun fish, causing them to briefly lose consciousness and float away, offering a more satisfying and effective way to deal with hostile wildlife. This addresses a common player desire for more direct interaction with the game's creatures.

Beyond combat adjustments, 'Adaptive Measures' enriches the early game with new abandoned Biomods for players to find and utilize. The update also expands the number of slots available for equipping these DNA-bending abilities, with a future scanner promising even more unlockable modifications later in the game. Environmental cues for Blight creatures have been improved to signal their attack status more clearly. Exploration within the game's wrecks has also been enhanced with new puzzles designed to make these areas more engaging.

The game's PDA has received a significant overhaul, now allowing players to revisit previous recordings at their leisure. A new, larger storage option for bases has been added, though it does not automatically link to fabricators.

Looking ahead, Unknown Worlds has outlined a roadmap for Subnautica 2's Early Access period. The upcoming 1.2 update will focus on co-op features, including the introduction of voice chat, emotes, and the ability for players to revive one another. This patch will also enable player trading, enhance HUD signals, improve the base building tool, and refine the pinned recipes UI.

While a substantial world and story expansion is still in development, the 'Adaptive Measures' update provides immediate improvements to gameplay mechanics and exploration, giving players new tools to contend with the challenges of Planet 4546B.
