UK-based Supermassive Games has announced a significant round of layoffs, with up to 75 employees expected to lose their jobs. The studio, renowned for its cinematic horror titles such as Until Dawn, The Quarry, and The Dark Pictures Anthology series, described the move as a "necessary step to ensure the sustainability of our company." This process involves a redundancy consultation that could impact a substantial portion of its workforce.
This marks the third instance of job cuts at Supermassive within the last two years. In July 2025, the studio implemented layoffs affecting up to 36 employees, citing the need to "adapt our team structure to better align with recent industry changes." Prior to that, a "reorganisation" in February 2024 was reported by Bloomberg to have put approximately 150 employees at risk, with an expected 90 redundancies.
Supermassive's most recent release was Directive 8020, the fifth installment in The Dark Pictures Anthology, which launched in May to mixed reception. Last October, the studio also took over the Little Nightmares series, releasing Little Nightmares 3, which also garnered mixed reviews.
